Letting Go and Trusting God’s Plan

Not everyone can go where God is taking you. Along this journey, you may lose people, places, and things—not in a tragic way, but in a way that requires you to close the door and let God seal it shut. It doesn’t mean those people or experiences weren’t important. They were. They played a role in your story, but the life God has planned for you doesn’t include them moving forward—and that’s okay.

Letting go is never easy. Losing what feels familiar—whether it’s relationships, routines, or even places—can feel scary. It’s often the uncertainty that holds us back, leaving us clinging to what’s known, even when it no longer fits where God is leading us. But here’s the truth: The key to your freedom has always been in your possession.

There’s a popular saying: Some people are in your life for a reason, some for a season, and others for a lifetime. The challenge is discerning who and what belongs in each category—and being willing to release the things God is calling you to let go of.

Sometimes we cling to things that no longer serve us. Maybe it’s a table you’re no longer invited to sit at. A relationship that’s run its course. A job that doesn’t align with your calling anymore. God has a way of gently tapping us on the shoulder to say, “It’s time to move on.”

Here’s a simple analogy: Imagine me walking around my neighborhood wearing my daughter’s small T-shirt, when I typically wear an XL, sometimes even an XXL—what would you think? Can you picture how ridiculous that would look? A shirt that’s four sizes too small, squeezing the life out of me. Everyone around me would immediately know it doesn’t fit, yet I’d keep wearing it, convincing myself it still works.

That’s exactly how some of us are living—clinging to things that no longer fit. We hold onto outdated relationships, missed opportunities, and situations that hinder our growth. These “small T-shirts” are weighing us down, keeping us from stepping into the fullness of what God has already prepared. It’s time to let go of the things that don’t serve you, and boldly embrace the life that God is calling you into. The right fit is waiting—don’t settle for less than what He has for you.

When God calls us to step into His plans, it often feels overwhelming. The obstacles ahead can seem too big, too impossible. But look at David. He was just a shepherd boy, overlooked and underestimated. Yet, when Goliath towered over him, mocking him and his people, David didn’t flinch.

Why? Because David didn’t trust in his own strength—he trusted in God’s.

David declared, “You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts” (1 Samuel 17:45). Armed with nothing but a sling, five smooth stones, and unwavering faith, David defeated the giant.

David’s victory wasn’t about his size or skill. It was about his trust in God’s power.

Now, take a moment. Look in the mirror. Remind yourself who you are: You are more than a conqueror. You are chosen by God to do great works. The same God who empowered David to defeat Goliath is with you, ready to help you overcome the giants in your life.

It’s easy to want to go back to the familiar because it feels safe. But remember Lot’s wife—she looked back and turned into a pillar of salt. Some of us are still looking back, trapped in the very places God is trying to free us from.

So, I ask you: What is God asking you to let go of? How many signs or people will God send to get your attention? God is trying to take you beyond your wildest dreams, but He can’t do it if you keep holding onto what He’s called you to release.

When God called Joshua to step into his destiny, He said: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9).

What are you holding onto that God has asked you to release? Are you running from His call like Jonah? Is fear holding you back from starting that business, forgiving someone, or leaving a job that no longer aligns with your purpose?

I get it. I’ve been a runner, too. Afraid to trust God fully, afraid to step out in faith. But I’m here to tell you—there’s freedom on the other side of obedience.

Today is the day you break free. Today is the day you stop making excuses. Today is the day you let go and let God.

You can trust Him. He will never fail you. The life He has planned for you is beyond anything you can imagine.

Take that first step. Look in the mirror, and say it out loud: “I am more than a conqueror. I am chosen by God to do great works.”

Now believe it. Walk in it. Live it.

You’ve got this!
