Whose Voice Are You Listening To?

A few days ago, I was writing a blog I thought would inspire others, but something felt off. As I read it aloud, my daughter, sitting across from me, interrupted with a knowing smile:

“Dad, it’s obvious you don’t like it.”

I looked at her and asked why she thought that. She smiled and said, “Because you’re asking me too many questions about it, and you never do that.”

She was right. I didn’t like it because I wasn’t writing from my heart. I was trying to force something that wasn’t God-breathed.

In 2008, I was offered a high-powered job at a company everyone said was on the verge of bankruptcy. “Don’t take it,” they warned. “It’s a sinking ship.” Their voices were loud, but God’s voice was louder. I kept hearing Him telling me to accept the job.

I wrestled with the decision night and day, torn between logic and faith. Ultimately, I chose to trust God’s voice. I took the job.

Three months later, the company shut down. I was unemployed, and the enemy wasted no time filling my mind with doubt: Maybe they were right. Maybe you heard wrong.

But I held onto God’s promise, even in the storm. I knew He had a plan.

For the next nine months, I worked three jobs, seven days a week, 70-80 hours a week—making only a fraction of my previous salary. It was exhausting, humbling, and at times discouraging. But through it all, I kept trusting God. I clung to His voice, refusing to let the enemy’s lies shake my faith.

And then, one day, the phone rang. A major corporation offered me a job I never expected—one that exceeded anything I could have dreamed of. It was more responsibility, more opportunity, and more income than I had ever imagined.

God proved, once again, that His plans are perfect. He took what looked like a setback and turned it into a setup for something greater.

I’m glad I listened to His voice. That decision changed my life.

God’s voice will lead you to places you can’t see yet, places that defy logic and challenge your understanding. But He is faithful. He will never fail or abandon you.

Maybe you’re facing a tough decision right now. Maybe you’re wrestling with the voices of fear, doubt, or well-meaning people telling you what to do. Maybe you’re caught between what makes sense and what God is calling you to do.

Here’s my advice: Be still and know that He is God. Trust His voice.

From the beginning, humanity has struggled to trust God’s voice. Think of Adam and Eve. The serpent convinced Eve that God’s truth wasn’t enough, and she reached for what wasn’t hers. Adam followed. In that moment of disobedience, everything changed—not because God stopped loving them, but because they chose the wrong voice.

Jesus said, “My sheep know My voice.” But the enemy works tirelessly to distract and deceive us, using fear, comfort, and worldly pleasures to pull us away from God’s plans.

The mind is a battlefield. The stakes are high, and the choice is yours: Will you follow the wide road, filled with distractions, or the narrow road, where God’s purpose and promises are waiting?

When I reflect on that season in 2008, I’m reminded that God’s plans often don’t make sense in the moment. But His ways are higher, His timing perfect, and His love unwavering.

If I had listened to the wrong voices, I would have missed the blessing God had in store for me. If I had let fear win, I would have settled for less than His best.

Maybe you’re in a similar place right now. Maybe you’re doubting, second-guessing, or struggling to hear God through the noise. Let me remind you:

God knows you. He sees you. He has a plan for you.

He knows your flaws, your doubts, and your fears, and He loves you anyway. His love is steadfast, even when you stumble. He pursues you, even when you wander. He redeems what feels broken and makes all things new.

God is calling you to something greater. The question is: Whose voice will you listen to?

You don’t have to have all the answers. You don’t have to see the full picture. All you have to do is trust Him.

The nations are waiting. There are lives that will be changed because of your obedience. Don’t let fear, indecision, or the opinions of others hold you back. Take the first step.

Your destiny is waiting. God is with you. Trust His voice. You got this!
